Let us tell sad stories of the death of kings

Grim faced men with set shoulders and sad eyes escort a box through the shrines doors. It is too small a vessel to contain such a boundless spirit. I know it only can hold Gyrth because the spirit has fled to Elysium. Though, only after a long stop at Fenway Park.

I tried not to cry through the service, but as soon as the choir began Non nobis Domine, well. Well.

He was supposed to be immortal. The story isnt supposed to end with the death of the hero. Except, it occurs to me, the great tales often do. And Gyrths life was an epic.

let us sit upon the ground and tell sad stories of the death of kings: - (Richard II, 3.2.155-160)

No, Shakespeares tragedy is the wrong quote. Ill have to make up my own.

Let us raise a glass and tell true stories of a noble Duke, to revel in both the revered legend and the silly man.

And so we did adjourn to Plas Mawr for food and drink and companionship to speak and laugh amongst all those who loved this man through his life from his days as an altar boy to his love for his household. Of his passion for baseball, his love for his family, and his abnormal penchant for marshmallow peeps and Christmas kitsch.

Now, we are home, and todays mail brought the usual round of holiday catalogs. I think we shall finish the day in a way Gyrth would applaud deciding what evil we can create from the new Archie McPhee catalog
