Aunt Theo takes a nap, and other tales of Crown

Two minutes is an eternity to a four year old.

No, no, Aunt Theo is taking a nap. Whispers from my nephew, as he is slowly dragged from the room. Thirty seconds of silence. Forty seconds of silence. Door opens, little feet pad across the carpet and l-e-a-p onto the lump under the blanket causing all air to leave my lungs.

Aunt Theo, Aunt Theo, what are you doing?

One eye opens to see my nephews face upside down under the covers. Before I can answer, he hears the approach of the grandmother, and, sensing he will be dragged from the room, employs that time honored childs strategy

Qwick, qwick, Aunt Theo, if we get all under the covers Nana cant find us.

Nana is too wily to be fooled by the ostrich defense and climbs under the blankets too, quickly followed by Uncle Roland who has come to see what all the noise was about because four year old yell loudly when plotting how to hide.

Now, there are three adults and one wiggly child under the covers. None of this is getting me closer to achieving an afternoon nap, especially when the wiggly child repeatedly executes flying leaps onto the adults.

Roland balls our nephew up in the blanket, pinning him down, which leads to loud and indignant cries of Unca Roland! It also leads to the discovery that, once bundled in a blanket, he can not only be moved, but he can be swung back and forth.

This is how our nephews vocabulary expanded to a new word this weekend hammock, as in Do me again! Do me again! Swing hammock!

Now, you too know how to play the game Aunt Theo takes a nap.

We stopped by my Moms on the way to Crown and, again, on the way back. On Sunday, I was too smart to take a nap with our nephew.

Crown was a lovely event. I had made a new warm hood because I am an Appalachian girl and I know how cold November can be; combined with the flannel and wool ensemble I made once upon an Ymir, I was toasty warm all day.

I am fabulously excited for our Heirs, Robert and Denise, because They will be serve so well and with so much heart. Also, it will make Lady Anne come out to play more. I love watching Anne when shes being gracious, but with that gleam of mischief in her eyes.

What else to tell?

The consort brunch was scrumptious, and they had warm wassail. I had to resist the urge to shout wassail! when the servers were kindly bringing the consorts refills. I concentrated on being dignified.

Robear was the best part of the procession. Okay, the romans escorting Valhalric and Arielle were the best part of the procession. I was blown away by how well they pulled it all together. But, really, Robear brought up the end with his drums.

I greatly enjoyed being Rolands consort. A day supporting my husband, actually spending time with him, and striving for the opportunity to serve the realm. Besides, being fought for in Crown makes everybody feel just a little like a princess. After years of one or the other of us chasing obligations as Kingdom officers, I had forgotten how much fun it could be. Also, I get lots of kisses all day.

The drive home (interstate on a Sunday bleck) not of the fun, especially when the afternoon nap urge calls. Home by late Sunday to a grumpy cat and a relaxing movie which leads me to todays survey question

How many sock puppets do you think itll take to conquer the White House?

(Big points to anyone who can pin down that quote.)
