2005-12-07 - 2:44 p.m. East to West, and Back Again: An engineer's tale This Friday = Narnia skip day. Who’s with me? Last week in Theo world: It was an intense trip, no time to even try to catch Celynen. Crunched data all afternoon, then went to the hotel bar, got a cosmopolitan and sat there with my laptop crunching more data until the late hours. Spent Tuesday in long, but very productive meetings, then got up at 3 am Wednesday, flying back west to east through the day that - thanks to the magic of the Earth's rotation - never seems to end cause I had too much to do at my desk. Thursday was spent not getting any work done for the folks walking in my office every fifteen minutes says Oh, good; you're back. On the bright side, I had a massage scheduled for Wednesday night, so I walked off the plane and went to see my MT. Oh, thank you God for small blessings. And, the lady on the last flight out-Pinked Gen in the pink of sweater, bag, scarf and matching travel pillow - the kind of pink that changes the light in the 10 foot surrounding area. Friday. A drive to Unevent with a Duchess and a Genevieve and a very patient Roland, who ate Indian food and went to see Pride and Prejudice with the girls. With no commitments the first hour, I went with Drea to the Family Dollar store, which provided us cheap blinky reindeer antlers suitable for Vixen and I to wear all day. We did remove the ‘TRY ME!’ sticker from the on-button first, because we are smart like rock. (Free entertainment: Wear antlers to meetings and you’ll vote for things without even knowing it. Now, turn on the blinking lights.) But Drea’s cleverest idea was to write ‘Flying Monkey’ on tshirts for the Exchequer meeting. When poor B arrived wearing her wicked witch tshirt proclaiming ‘Don’t make me get my flying monkeys,’ she found five random people in the audience appropriately labeled. I numbered the monkeys in different base systems, so we had 42 in decimal, hex, and binary. [Insert Gen saying Geek! as she drew the flying monkey logo on the tshirt arm.) It’s good I like math, because I’ve wound up being the War Exchequer for Crusades. Perhaps I should learn to Excheq before next October. Sunday was a remarkably entertaining (8+ hour) drive home where we solved the world’s problems, debated the merits of logic and poached fish, learned that a pterodactyl is now a pteranodon, and Gen made a mouse named Blueberry. Christmas continues to apporach, with only part of my shopping done. But, we wrote a Christmas letter, which some of y'all may see someday after the cute holiday stamps arrive. I finally got around to ordering them after being much distracted with the Muppet stamps. (Fozzie!) You just can't mail out Christmaas cards with flag stamps, can you? Nor, can they be mailed with Muppet stamps. Though, I may put all the Miss PIggy stamps on one sheet and send them to the Cuan.
